Family time 2007 style

While RC and I are lounging and drinking visiting with my family, here's a recap of the family reunion event we had 5 years ago.

Signage at the event
Not a McCarthy or a Schiller? You're at the wrong reunion then! Just kidding, we'll give you some food and beer and likely ask you to take some photos....

Cousins from SoCal (and Scott)
Sisters and cousin Scott.

McCarthy/Schiller clan
Everyone gathering for the photo.

 McCarthy/Schiller photo shoot
This is how we had to capture everyone in the photo! Pretty great, eh?

That's a lot of Schillers, 2/2
Family style dinner- for reals!
The "Sweet Sixteen"
Who's who? You're who? Who's your dad? Which of the 16 are you from? Do you know Uncle Tom?
This is a homemade family photo tree that showed everyone's photo and how we're all related!

Square Dancing DJ/MC  Square Dancing on a friday night
AND! Last year we had a sweet DJ who also doubled as a square dance caller.
Rumor has it that this year, he's coming back!

Stay tuned next week for a complete recap!

**Many thanks to cousin Scott Schiller for sharing all of the above photos.

Top 5 Thursdays

I'm on my way to my family reunion this weekend and I'm sharing my top 5 travel must haves.
iPad- no more carrying around tons of magazines and/or books for the flight- they're all digital now! To minimizes smears and smudges, I use this stylus (pink of course) to navigate between apps, turn pages, and play games. Got a chatty seat partner? I just pop in my earbuds and look busy (or close my eyes!)I always travel with my glasses. Wearing contacts more than 8 hours takes a toll on my eyes and these are my new stylish frames. This neck pillow is filled with soft microbeads, so it's really squishy (read:it really fits anywhere). If you don't plan on napping during your flight, you can always use it for 'bottom' support. On long flights, it's helpful to have a comfy seat! As a San Franciscan, I like to travel with a scarf or wrap because it doubles as an additional layer. And, if you're planning a tropical getaway, you can use it as a sarong style coverup on the beach! It's in the high eighties where we are going- so, while I won't use it this weekend, I'll use it on my flight back Sunday night! Finally, I always bring a tiny lotion with me. I like this Philosophy hand creme because its small and can double as a moisturizer as soon as I get off the plane for a little pick me up!

Tomorrow, a recap of my family reunion from 5 years ago!

Thanks a "latte" DIY

I work with some really amazing people. And while it's easy to say "Thanks for working hard!", sometimes it's best to really show your thanks with a little somethin' somethin'. As our office is within walking distance to three Starbucks (no really, there are really three within a one minute walk from our office), I chose Starbucks gift cards to show my many thanks to my teammates. I've included a simple DIY project to go with the gift cards.

What you'll need:
Glue gun
Paper trimmer
5x7 Thanks a latte print, found here
**Thanks a latte (ha!) to eighteen25 for the link to the printout!Heavy white cardstock
Coffee sleeve
Gift card (of course!)

What you'll do:
Simple steps really! Download and print the 5x7 file outlined at the link above. I was able to print two at a time on my white cardstock. Next, trim to size. Dismantle the coffee sleeve so you just have one side. Use the glue gun to adhere just the edges of the coffee sleeve; this will act a the little 'pocket' for the gift card to fit inside! Insert the gift card and your gift is ready for giving!

{To add another gift element to an already thoughtful gift, you can replace the cardboard coffee sleeve with a reusable one! I like this one and this one.}

Well, what do you think? Will you use this easy DIY gift idea? What are some of your thoughtful gift ideas?

More UniqueSF finds

Some more UniqueSF finds.

Artist Jen Lorang had the greatest showcase of jewelry. All of her pieces are online here.

These Further products are all made from the biproducts of biofuel. Sounds complicated, but it's really not. Check out the whole story here

I didn't get to snap pictures of all of the booths I visited, but you have go to check them out. fiveandtwo had amazing neon and geode pieces. Fresh letter press from anemoneletterpress. Fancy but wearable pieces from Caposhi. Customizable spoons from Cyndi of Bella Jackson Studios.

My Daily San Franciscan find. I like it, it's industrial but girlie at the same time. She even snapped my picture for her blog. I think I want this piece to be my next purchase from her.

My the urban smith find. Reppin' San Francisco.

And while I love all of the pieces I came home with, my favorite was this Natasha Grasso necklace. A love knot! RC and I tied a love knot on our wedding day, so this one holds a special place with me. I love the two tone silver chain and rose gold 'knot'.

I also scored a great poster which I am in the process of framing. Be on the lookout for more on that soon!

The best part?! Lots of these amazing vendors (and many more) will be at the 5th annual Renegade Craft Fair here at Fort Mason July 21st and 22nd! Who wants to go with me?

Weekend recap

Our adventure this Saturday to Oysterfest was fun! There was a massive line at the main entrance, so RC and I skipped that mess and found the second entrance around the back of the event! While there was still a line, we only waited 10 minutes as opposed to the hour some people claimed to have waited. After entering the event, we waited in line again to prove that we were 21+ (the stamp was a Facebook like 'thumbs up' stamp that didn't wash off easy). Next, we wised up and I waited in another massive line for beers while RC tackled the grub lines. While we would have loved to eat oysters at Oysterfest, the line was twice as long for that ish than anything else. Go figure!  Beer, margarita, fish tacos and a brat in hand, we grabbed a really tiny bit of grass and tuned into Minus the Bear on stage. Also, we saw a bear...

Overall a really fun time, but I wouldn't recommend paying full price for a ticket or coming for the entire day.

Sneak peek of one of my finds at UniqueSF yesterday:

Stay tuned tomorrow to see the rest of my finds!
