Riveting Adventures

RC and I are all about adventuring. We love free adventures the most. We have a life goal of visiting all of the National Parks- we even have this neat passport to collect stamps of all of the places we visit. Our most recent adventure was to a National Historic Park in Richmond.

Rosie the Riveter National Historic Park- stamped!

Located just across the bay in Richmond, the Rosie the Riveter memorial is free. You can check out everything out here.

Rosie's roses

The memorial spans the length of the victory ships that were built by the Rosies

The memorial's walkways outline some journal excerpts outlining the Rosies' thoughts

Ford Assembly Building

Before visiting you can print out this map, with interesting facts about each stop on the self guided auto tour.

I downloaded the self guided map and tour pdf file to my iPad.
I played tour guide and read each and every interesting fact of the tour.

The only cost of this adventure was the donation to tour the SS Red Oak Victory Ship.

The SS RedOak Victory ship currently docked at the Richmond shipyard and is undergoing restoration. The Red Oak Victory is the last existing ship of 747 cargo ships launched from Richmond (all of the other ships had been scrapped and/or lost in battle). While we really enjoyed the history tour of the Red Oak, our favorite part of the entire day was our tour guide George. He served in WW II, toured overseas on a ship similar to the Red Oak and now volunteers his time as a docent. George's stories were entertaining and his passion for sharing history was inspiring- he was 90 years old!

My Captain

On our way back to the city, we stopped in Berkeley for a treat!

A sweet way to end the day!

Stay turned for more of our adventures! Have you visited any National Parks?
